The relationship between 3D printing and heat treatment is equally beneficial, as the heat treatment of 3D printed projects has been shown to dramatically increase the strength and stiffness of certain 3D printed parts, whereas the 3D printing of heat treatment parts can be advantageous in the manufacturing process and subsequent properties of the 3D printed parts.

Organic rheology modifiers come in many shapes and sizes. They are used throughout various industries, from cosmetics to paints and beyond, to change many properties of a formulation-based product. The addition of these modifiers can bring various benefits depending on the product and the modifier. In this article, we look at the properties of some of the most common organic rheology modifiers.

Fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP), also known as fiber-reinforced polymers, are a category of composite plastics specifically using fiber materials to mechanically augment the elasticity and strength of the plastic. They consist of a polymer matrix – the original plastic which is usually tough but weak – which is blended with a reinforcing material to yield a final product with the desired material or mechanical properties.

Technical ceramics are one of several materials, such as glass, plastics and metals, that can be used to protect the environment as well as help regenerate damaged ecosystems. The use of technology created from these materials for this purpose is known as environmental engineering.

Thin film batteries are a type of solid state battery, i.e. a battery that uses both solid electrodes and a solid electrolyte. However, unlike many other batteries, they are of the order of a few hundred nanometres.

3D printing has been around for longer than most people think - the first 3D print was made in 1981 by Hideo Kodama. But 3D printing has come a long way since then, with prints being made at resolutions as low as two-hundredths of a millimeter.

Blast furnaces are an indispensable part of the iron industry. After iron ore is mined, it goes directly to the furnace to be smelted, or refined. But blast furnaces produce an incredible amount of carbon dioxide.

Rheology is a branch of physics that describes the deformation and flow of matter, in particular the non-Newtonian flow of liquids and the plastic flows of solids. The study of rheological properties is important as it can affect every stage of a material’s usage across numerous industries, from formulation development and stability, to processing and product performance.
