Dow to License Coating Technology as Part of Plan to Expand Technology Use in Europe

Dow Corning Corp., which makes silicon-based products, said Monday it has agreed to license its coating technology to a German product-solutions company, as part of a plan to expand the technology's use in Europe.

A Freudenberg & Co. Ltd. subsidiary will license Dow's atmospheric pressure plasma liquid deposition (APPLD) technology for commercial coating during product development and toll manufacturing.

The companies did not release financial terms of the agreement.

Freudenberg specializes in product solutions for seals and vibration control technology, nonwovens, lubricants, release agents and household products.

Dow Corning said in a statement that "the aim of the collaboration ... is to push the commercial use of APPLD technology in the European market."

Dow Corning is a venture of Dow Chemical Co. and Corning Inc. Dow shares rose 38 cents to $43.44 in morning trading, while Corning shares added 37 cents to $25.02.
