Alcan Celebrated Centennial of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne Facility

Alcan today celebrated the centennial of its Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne facility in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. The ceremony, which took place at the facility, commemorated 100 years of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne's contributions to the aluminum industry and scientific community.

Michel Jacques, President and CEO of Alcan Primary Metal Group attended the celebration and noted: "It is an honor to be here with so many employees and retirees to celebrate the history of a facility that has been so important to the global aluminum industry. Alcan is proud that Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is recognized around the world as a leading center for French innovation," Jacques added.

The Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne facility is a key component to Alcan's R&D initiative that was announced in December 2006. Along with other centres in the Rhône-Alpes region and Canada, the facility will enable Alcan to aggressively pursue breakthrough technologies designed to increase efficiencies and to reduce energy consumption. The Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne facility is also a market leader in producing aluminum wire for Europe.
