ATK Receives Composite Wing Contract in Excess of $6 Million

ATK (Alliant Techsystems) has received advanced authorization for a $6 million contract from Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. to produce the first production lot of composite redesigned wing parts and assemblies for Northrop Grumman’s Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Production of the composite wing structures will take place at ATK facilities in Clearfield, Utah, Iuka, Miss. and Rocket Center, W.Va.

U.S. armed forces and the nation’s allies increasingly depend on UAVs to provide timely and accurate intelligence without putting pilots in harms way. Global Hawk will benefit from the strength, flexibility and lightweight design of ATK’s composite wings and assemblies as it supports the global war on terrorism.

The contract follows ATK’s January announcement that it is fabricating composite upper-wing skins for the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter.
