Dow’s UCAR Emulsions Division to Invest $100m over Next Three Years

UCAR Emulsion Systems, a division of Dow Chemical Corp are planning to make significant investments into their North American Operations. These include:

  • Construction of a new latex production facility at St. Charles in Louisianna, by Union Carbide
  • Expected future investments in Alsip, Illinois and Sarnia, Ontario

The new capacity will replace production that will be lost through the closure of plants in Tucker, Georgia and Garland, Texas. These plants will be closed in 2006.

These announcements will result in the investment of over $100million over the next three years.

While the investment in the new St. Charles factory will be the most significant, investment will also be made in the other two exiting plants to ensure their long-term viability.

The investments also represent UCAR’s commitment to the paint and coatings industry, which they supply.
