IOM Holds Materials in Forensic Science Conference

Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) holding one day event looking at the use of new technology in the field of forensics.

It will feature:

Fingerprint Technology: how fingerprint information can be obtained from fire damaged buildings and objects; the use of ‘fingerprint visualisation’ on metallic surfaces; how nanotechnology can be used to obtain gender, lifestyle and ethnic origin information about a subject.

Analytical Techniques: use of Ion Beam analysis to detect trace elements such as poisons or ink compositions in artwork; quartz grain analysis to track a person’s movement and link them to the scene of a crime; and spectroscopy techniques to link shot from the scene of a crime to the criminal.

Forensic Archaeology: how human skeletal remains can be used to reveal incredible details about their owner, and how bone and hair can be used as a forensic material.

Counterfeiting and Fraud: novel approach to counterfeit drug detection, art fraud and counterfeit coins.
