Oxford Semiconductor Releases Encryption Solutions for Securing High-Value Personal Data

Oxford Semiconductor, a leading provider of high-performance silicon and software solutions designed to simplify digital storage and retrieval for the connected digital lifestyle, today unveiled its AES 128-bit security encryption solutions for the growing family of Oxford’s direct-attached storage (DAS) platform solutions. Aimed at the increasing need to secure high-value personal data on easily transportable DAS systems, the new OXUS931SE and OXUFS936DSE devices employ a secure, hardware-based architecture for user authentication and data encryption.

“Securing high-value corporate information continues to be among the most critical concerns for IT managers,” stated David Schwartz, Oxford’s VP of sales and marketing. “With the quickly increasing amount of highly personal information consumers are storing on very transportable direct-attached storage, our key customers are seeing a growing need for encrypted storage solutions. The security, price/performance and time-to-market offered by these solutions continues to enable our storage system partners to expand their consumer DAS product portfolios.”

The OXUS931SE and OXUFS936DSE feature an embedded hardware encryption engine enabling real- time encryption with no loading on the host PC. This integrated encryption engine provides a platform for OEMs to offer advanced encryption and decryption capabilities in hardware, with support for multiple authentication methods including software password and biometric (fingerprint) sensor authentication for a range of external storage systems.

The OXUFS936DSE is based on the high-performance OXUFS936x RAID platform announced in mid-2008. This device supports FireWire400/800, USB2.0 and eSATA interfaces and two directly connected SATA disks. In addition, the device offers a range of LCD and LED user interfaces that are supported by the flexible software framework, greatly enhancing its capacity for product differentiation.

The OXUS931SE is aimed at the consumer who needs low-cost, single-drive secure storage. In a traditional implementation, the OXUS931SE acts as a high-performance bridge from USB2.0 or eSATA ports to a SATA hard disk drive in an external storage box supporting all current PC and Mac platforms. And, because of the OXUS931SE's high performance, it can also be implemented as an internal security dongle between a SATA port on the system motherboard and any internal SATA disk drive without any loss of throughput, for a fast and easy upgrade to a secure information system.
