A. Schulman Donates Equipment to Leading Polymer Research Institution

A. Schulman, Inc. (Nasdaq: SHLM) announced today that, as part of its ongoing collaboration with the University of Akron, it is donating $120,000 worth of laboratory equipment to the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.

"We thank A. Schulman for this generous donation and its continued support," said Dr. Stephen Z. Cheng, Dean of the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron.  "Our pioneering work in polymer science and polymer engineering ultimately benefits a wide range of companies in creating greater value and jobs, from global industry leaders such as A. Schulman to small start-ups with big ideas for the future."

The equipment donation includes microscopes, chillers, vacuum ovens, scales and blending equipment to be used in the university's research and laboratory facilities.

"We are privileged to have the University of Akron, one of the leading polymer research institutions, in our own backyard, and we are proud to be an industrial partner with the university," said Joseph M. Gingo, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.  "This partnership has benefited A. Schulman in many ways, from providing interns for market and product research and analysis, to the many highly qualified graduates we have hired from the University of Akron."

The University of Akron's College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering is the world's first, and the nation's largest, academic program devoted to the study of polymers. With 34 faculty members, five endowed professorships and chairs, and 300 graduate and post-doctoral students, the college's distinguished faculty and student body represent one of the world's largest concentrations of polymer expertise. In late 2010, the College will open its fifth campus facility, the 42,750-square-foot National Polymer Innovation Center.
