Asahi Kasei Plastics Expands Engineered Plastics Production Capacity

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Asahi Kasei Chemicals and a supplier of sophisticated engineered polymer compounds, Asahi Kasei Plastics North America is expanding its production capacity to 30% in order to meet the growing demands for Xyron (mPPE) and Leona (PA66+6I and PA66) engineering plastics products.

As per the $5.5 million expansion program, Asahi Kasei Plastics will add new peripheral device and compounding line and will also add a new line in the laboratory for enhanced customer endorsement, new product development and research and development. The company will hire 10 new experts and support personnel and will also add 6 new jobs in marketing, sales and development to meet the growing demands. The company’s new investment follows the recent $3 million upgrading program for existing manufacturing lines to meet the growth.

The Vice President of Operations, Prasad Puttagunta commented that the growing demands for the company’s new products are the factors behind this investment and the next capacity expansion is slated for 2012.

The President of Asahi Kasei Plastics North America, John W. Moyer stated that the company has experienced a 300% growth since its inception.
