Sims Group UK, a subsidiary of Sims Metal Management, has purchased a major UK-based metal recycling firm, Dunn Brothers.
Dunn Brothers specializes in recycling ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The company operates nine plants, including non-ferrous systems, 6000 hp shredder and dock facilities. The non-ferrous recycling and shredding assets are based in Dunn’s Birmingham facilities. The company recycles nearly 35,000 tons of scrap metal each month.
Daniel W. Dienst, CEO of Sims Group, stated that the new acquisition demonstrates the group’s capability to identify appropriate acquisitions. It also extends the company’s presence in new and regional markets. Through the acquisition, the company now operates a shredder plant in the UK. Dunn’s recycling business will provide opportunities for Sims Group’s UK metals business. The transaction positions the company as UK’s leading player and enables it to offer quality recycling alternatives to post-consumer and business sectors, Dienst said.
