Uhde and Evonik representatives have signed a non-exclusive licensing agreement with the delegation led by the Governor of the Chinese Province of Jilin to build and operate a hydrogen peroxide propylene oxide (HPPO) plant in Jilin, China.
Under the terms of the agreement, Uhde will provide support for plant erection and commissioning, deliver engineering design services and supply necessary equipment to the plant.
The agreement will also enable the formation of a joint venture (JV) between Jilin North Chemical Company and Jilin Shenhua. The JV will construct a propylene oxide plant with a production capacity of 300,000 tonnes. The plant will employ a process developed by Evonik and Uhde. Propylene oxide is used as a raw material in polyurethane foams that have applications in the automotive, furniture and building sectors.
The contract represents a significant contribution towards environmental-friendly processes and the importance of the HPPO process in the chemical market. The HPPO process offers various benefits, including low investment, high productivity and less production of by-products. It is highly economical than standard propylene oxide production processes.
