BASF to Highlight New Engineering Plastics, Metallization Inks at EU PVSEC 2012

A number of innovative products for manufacturing photovoltaic products will be showcased by BASF at the 27th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC).

The company will be highlighting its Ultramid engineering plastic, Uvinul and Irganox plastics additives, COLO-FAST polyurethane spray system, CypoSol metallization inks and pastes and SELURIS Clean chemicals for cleaning solar cells.

The Ultramid engineering plastic is designed for easy mounting of solar panels. The Ultramid A3WG10 engineering plastic is being used by Aixtra Solar in its AIXTRALIGHT PV mounting system. The AIXTRALIGHT CLIP is made from Ultramid A3WG10 and is a plastic bracket for roof mounting. It is a polyamide that demonstrates high stiffness and toughness at low temperatures. Even at temperatures of up to 80°C it has the least amount of creep. This plastic is suitable for mass production. The support components made from engineering plastics will also be showcased at the event.

BASF's Ultramid A3X2G7 polyamide is suitable for photovoltaic plugs. At wall thicknesses of 0.8 mm it fulfills the V0 UL flammability rating and at 1.5 mm thickness it has 5VA. BASF suggests Ultramid A3XZG5 for solar array socket. The material demonstrates high impact-resistance, more breaking elongation at high temperatures of 85°C and 85% humidity. The products have also cleared the UL 1703 cold impact test.

The SELURIS C2000 is an eco-friendly cleaning solution that performs expansive multi-step cleaning processes. BASF plastic additives such as Chimassorb, Tinuvin, and Uvinul enable plastics to withstand sunlight and Irgafos and Irganox help withstand heat. These materials can be used for encapsulants, backsheet films and frames and can last for at least 25 years.

BASF's special eco-friendly silver and aluminum inks for laser transfer printing process will be showcased. This allows printing of circuits on wafers for solar cells. The company’s COLO-FAST polyurethane casting system for framing photovoltaic modules is a weather-proof and UV-stable PU system that is also part of the products to be exhibited.

The EU PVSEC is to be held from 24 to 28, September, 2012 at the Messe Frankfurt exhibition center.
