Exova’s Global Corrosion Scientist Achieves Fellowship Award

Exova’s internationally renowned corrosion control scientist, Dr Chris Fowler, is to become a Fellow of NACE International, the world’s largest organisation dedicated to the study of corrosion.

Dr Fowler, global director of corrosion at Exova, has received the NACE Fellowship in recognition of his longstanding contribution to corrosion science, engineering and prevention.

Announcing the award, NACE International President, Kevin Garrity, said: “It is clear that the selection panel could not have made a better choice.”

Commenting on his fellowship, Dr Fowler said: “I’m deeply fulfilled and greatly honoured to have been selected to join the class of NACE International Fellows. The award is not given lightly and I will be conscious that I am among a small group of distinguished individuals as I continue my work.”

The fellowship award follows Dr Fowler’s election in September as president of the recently formed NACE Institute, which is part of NACE International.

During his three year term Dr Fowler will lead the Institute’s activities, including recognition programmes and public affairs projects. In addition the Institute will identify international best practice in corrosion management through greater levels of certification.

Dr Fowler’s prominent position in the corrosion industry goes back to 1989 when he became a member of NACE. Since then he has undertaken numerous roles in the organisation’s European region and served as international director for the European region on the NACE board, before taking up his presidency in 2010.

He has worked at Exova for more than 12 years, taking part in in several symposia, and has been a member or chair of several technical committees. A graduate of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, Dr Fowler is a Chartered Engineer and is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials.
