Alcan to Build $42.6m Packaging Facility in North Carolina

Alcan Inc. announced today its investment of US$42.6 million in the construction of a new packaging facility in Reidsville Industrial Park, North Carolina. The new plant will produce printed packaging, including folding cartons and labels, for key customers in Alcan Packaging's global tobacco business.

"This investment further demonstrates Alcan's commitment to providing packaging solutions to its customers in North America," said Christel Bories, President and Chief Executive Officer, Alcan Packaging. "Not only will we be able to supply our tobacco customers with reliable, cost-efficient, high quality packaging materials, but also provide attractive employment opportunities for the local community," she added.

The new facility would create 170 highly-skilled jobs and use state-of-the art rotogravure printing processes. Construction on the site will begin in the third quarter, 2005 and will begin operations at the end of the second quarter, 2006.
