Special 3D Printed Snowflakes at Saks Fifth Avenue

“I’m dreaming of a White Christmas…” is often a popular refrain heard throughout the holiday season and Saks Fifth Avenue, MasterCard and MakerBot® are helping make that saying a reality with the gift of 3D printed snowflakes for MasterCard cardholders.

Starting November 25th and running through December 24th, visitors to the Saks Fifth Avenue store on Fifth Avenue in New York City will have the opportunity to take a 3D printed snowflake home with them.

The snowflakes, illustrated by Marian Bantjes and 3D printed by MakerBot on a MakerBot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer, are a special gift with purchase during the holiday season. Shoppers that spend $150 or more at Saks Fifth Avenue on their MasterCard will receive a special commemorative 3D printed snowflake, which makes a beautiful ornament or holiday decoration.

“Saks Fifth Avenue partnered with us on this fun project to bring a 3D printed ‘White Christmas’ to their iconic Fifth Avenue retail store,” noted Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “We loved the idea of taking the ethereal snowflake art of Marian Bantjes and 3D printing them into keepsake snowflake ornaments that can be displayed throughout the holiday season and beyond.”

Marian Bantjes is a designer, typographer, writer and illustrator working internationally from her base on a small island off the west coast of Canada near Vancouver. Marian’s art and design crosses boundaries of time, style and technology. She is known for her detailed and lovingly precise vector art, her obsessive handwork, her patterning and ornament. Often hired to create custom type for magazines, advertising and special projects, Marian’s work has an underlying structure and formality that frames its organic, fluid nature. It is these combinations and juxtapositions that draw the interest of such a wide variety of designers and typographers, from experienced formalists to young students.

The MakerBot 3D printed snowflakes are the first time Marian Bantjes artwork has been translated into a 3D printed item.

The 3D printed snowflakes will be available for MasterCard customers that spend $150 or more at Saks Fifth Avenue from November 25th through December 24th, on the fourth floor of the Saks Fifth Avenue store located at 611 Fifth Avenue, New York, N.Y. For more information, visit saksfifthavenue.com. Saks Fifth Avenue customers can also see a MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer in action 3D printing the snowflakes at the store Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m., and on weekends, 10:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m.
