Point Grey Announces Compatibility Between USB3 Vision Cameras and Matrox Imaging Library

Point Grey, a world-leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, high-performance digital cameras, today announced plug-and-play interoperability between Point Grey’s Grasshopper®3 and Flea®3 USB3 Vision cameras and Matrox Imaging Library (MIL), a comprehensive software tool for developing machine vision, image analysis and medical imaging software applications.

USB3 Vision is a machine vision interface standard designed to enable seamless integration between USB 3.0 cameras, cables and image processing libraries from different vendors. The standard defines a stream and control protocol, which leverages the success of GigE Vision and GenICam by relying on a standard format naming convention (SFNC) to maintain consistency in functionality and attribute naming. Existing GigE Vision users will be able to seamlessly transition to USB3 Vision and vice versa.

Point Grey, one of the founding members of the USB3 Vision Committee and a key contributor to the development of this standard, has been working alongside Matrox Imaging since summer 2013 on the USB3 Vision implementation. Matrox Imaging already provides support for Point Grey’s GigE Vision and FireWire products and with the recent release of Matrox Imaging Library release 10, support is extended to Point Grey’s USB3 Vision cameras.

“The material support provided by Point Grey was instrumental for developing the native support for USB3 Vision in the Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) and this direct cooperation will continue to enhance the experience of mutual users in the future,” says Pierantonio Boriero, Product Line Manager at Matrox Imaging. “We are excited to see Matrox Imaging, one of the leading players in the machine vision industry, join the USB3 Vision ecosystem with their new version of MIL,” says Michael Gibbons, Director of Sales and Marketing at Point Grey. “Providing easy, reliable interoperability between Matrox Imaging Library software and Point Grey USB3 Vision cameras will have a huge benefit for our mutual customers worldwide.”

Existing Point Grey customers can download the USB3 Vision supported firmware for all Grasshopper3 and Flea3 USB 3.0 models directly from Point Grey’s website. Version 1.0 of the USB3 Vision specification is available for download to the public for free on the AIA website: www.visiononline.org.
