Siemens has signed a five-year contract with US Mittal Steel/Sparrows Point for caster maintenance services. This agreement, which will be implemented by the I&S company VAST (Voest-Alpine Services and Technologies), is a continuation of the long-term partnership with this steel producer. Provisions for total service of the two continuous slab-casting machines will be carried out in addition to the continued enhancement of equipment design and maintenance practices for optimized caster operations.
Mittal Steel USA/Sparrows Point, a division of Mittal Steel USA, is a fully integrated steelmaking facility located near Sparrows Point, Maryland. The production facilities of the company include a sinter plant, blast furnace, basic oxygen furnace, slab casters, hot-rolling mill, cold-rolling mill, a coating mill and a tin mill. A total of approximately 3.6 million tons of flat-steel products are produced each year that are sold as hot-rolled sheets, cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheet, Galvalume, tin-mill products and semi-finished steel to the construction, steel service center, automotive, container and appliance markets.
