BHP Steel to Expand NZ Coating Plant

BHP Steel have announced that they will be spending AUD$14 million to upgrade their wholly owned metal coating plant in Glenbrook in New Zealand.

The money will be used to increase production of premium metallic coated steel by 10%, to 234,000 tonnes. The expanded production is required as the plant is currently nearing capacity.

To achieve the increased capacity, the existing metal coatings plant will be expanded so that the production line can run at higher speeds, and hence increase throughput. Also included in the upgrades will be increased annealing capacity.
