Lanxess ABS Plant in Spain Comes Back On Line After Fire

The LANXESS chemical group has put two compounding lines for the production of ABS plastics back on stream at its plant in Tarragona in Spain. The compounding facilities were damaged in a fire on August 18, 2006, and production was temporarily disrupted as a result. "One section of the compounding lines is now back in full production," announced Stefan Michel, head of the Europe and Latin America region of the recently renamed LANXESS business unit Lustran Polymers. "I am confident that we can also conclude the repair work on the other compounding lines as planned." Additional external production capacities would be used in the meantime.

The fire has had no effect on the project to expand capacity in Tarragona. The realignment of the business unit is also proceeding completely according to plan.
