Bayer to Spin Off Polymers and Chemical Businesses

After a successful reorganisation, Bayer is to spin off certain parts of its polymers and chemicals business to concentrate on its core businesses of health care, nutrition and innovative materials.

Under the proposed arrangement, Bayer Chemicals, excluding HC Starck and Wolff Walsrode will be combined with certain parts of the polymers business. The new company, with the provisional name of NewCo will then be listed on the stock exchange by early 2005.

The formation of NewCo will allow them to focus on their core areas of speciality. They will be among Europe’s leading chemical suppliers with sales of 5.6 billion Euro, about 20,000 employees and around 5,000 products.
