Cobalt-Chrome Stents Receive FDA Approval - News Item

Giudant Corp. have received FDA approval for the first cobalt chrome stent for use in treating coronary problems such as blockages. The new stents are marketed under the name Multi-Link Vision.

The use of cobalt chrome has allowed the diameter of the stent to be reduced to 3 and 4mm and the overall lengths of the stents vary from 8 to 28 mm.

The stents received approval after a 6 month clinical trial which resulted in a target lesion revascularisation rate of just 1.9%, or the requirement for a repeat procedure at the site of the original site during the follow up period.
