Polymer Type |
Thermoplastic |
Advantages |
Transparent, good surface finish, good outdoor weathering properties and rigidity. Good electrical insulating properties at low frequency. Resistant to alkalis. Easily machineable using drills, saws, and the like. Low mould shrinkage (~ 0.8%), thermoformable. |
Disadvantages |
Poor scratch resistance, dissolved by a number of organic solvents - organic materials that are not solvents for acrylic can cause cracking and crazing. Attacked by mineral acids. Difficult to weld but can be satisfactorily solvent cemented. Not suitable for normal vacuum forming operations. |
