Project Aims to Reduce the Cost of Physical Vapour Deposition PVD Coatings

The FLEXICOAT project (flexible automated processes for VPD coatings in new applications), coordinated by TEKNIKER, is aimed at developing the technologies necessary for reducing costs in certain processes of physical deposition in vapour phase deposition (VPD), in order for this technology to be more competitive in the world of small and medium sized businesses.

To this end, what is proposed is combining the technique of VPD coatings with other previous treatments that enable the obtaining of coatings on a variety of materials – steel, brass, zamak (zinc alloys) and other alloys of zinc and aluminium. The concept involves the construction of a prototype of a VPD camera capable of undertaking the processes more rapidly and with extraordinary reliability, reducing the cost and making available access to applications hitherto inaccessible to VPD.
