Amcor to Become World Leader in PET Packaging

Amcor has just entered into an agreement to purchase Schmalbach-Lubeca’s (SL) PET container and closures assets, making it the worlds leader in PET packaging. The acquisition will cost Amcor 1.725 billion Euros and increase the number of plants to 51 in 20 countries for the Amcor empire.

SL is largest manufacturer of PET containers in world as well as having significant market share in Europe, North and Latin America. Key areas of manufacture include carbonated soft drinks, water and custom bottles.

The acquisition will compliment Amcor’s operations in Canada and the America’s as well as being strategically positioned to develop more technologically advanced products for more demanding applications. This largely stems from capital investment in SL operations aimed at giving them the capability to introduce innovative products to the market and manufacturing at increased efficiencies.
