New Biopolymer Offerings Prove Extremely Popular

PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, today announced its recent introduction of new technology platforms and biopolymer solutions helped capture several hundred qualified sales leads within a week of launching.

During the 2009 National Plastics Exposition (NPE) held in late June in Chicago, PolyOne unveiled a wide range of innovative solutions to improve customers' ability to win business, differentiate products, and reduce systems costs, such as:

  • BPA-free EdgetekTM made with Eastman Tritan
PolyOne has expanded its bisphenol-A (BPA) free product line to include opaque blends used to manufacture aesthetically pleasing and durable housings for products such as sporting goods, house wares and battery-operated power tools.
  • ResoundTM biopolymer compounds for durable goods
PolyOne's revolutionary new ResoundTM family of biopolymer compounds contain at least 30 percent bio-derived content, while achieving previously unattainable levels of heat and impact performance. With Resound, it is now possible for manufacturers to utilize biopolymers in durable applications such as business equipment and automotive components.
  • VersaflexTM BIO thermoplastic elastomers
PolyOne's Versaflex BIO TPEs, used in soft-touch applications such as grips on consumer products and house wares, contain up to 70 percent renewable resources, while comparable compounds are only composed of 15 to 20 percent.
  • GeonTM Vinyl compounds with metallic special effects
PolyOne's groundbreaking metallic-colored compounds for home appliances provide the high-end look of stainless steel, while eliminating environmentally unfriendly and costly paint operations.
  • ECCOHTM compounds for optical fiber applications
PolyOne has developed new compounds for wire and cable sheathing to meet the growing demand for optical fiber connections into homes and buildings for telecommunications. ECCOH compounds provide the added safety benefit of being fire retardant, and emit low smoke, low fume and zero halogens when exposed to heat.
  • OnColorTM WPC for natural fiber composites
The next-generation colorants and additives for natural fiber composites offered by PolyOne improve the ability of composite building materials to resist water, mold, mildew, scratches and fading. Composite building materials are composed of post-consumer recycled natural fibers, such as sawdust and cardboard, for use in backyard decks, porch railings and fencing.

"The changing regulatory environment, coupled with consumer demand for environmentally responsible products, provides opportunities for PolyOne to create innovative solutions that meet this new demand," said Michael E. Kahler, senior vice president, commercial development. "The positive reception from the NPE event demonstrates that PolyOne is differentiating itself by creating specialized, value-added solutions."
