Double Width Thermoclick Sheets Helps Architects with Sustainable Building Designs

SABIC Innovative Plastics' commitment to helping builders and architects strengthen sustainable building designs by increasing energy conservation, all while improving working and living environments has led to another industry game-changer - new 1000 mm-width Lexan* Thermoclick* polycarbonate (PC) 50 mm sheet system. This new high-tech material greatly facilitates installation ease, while also providing customers with superior high-performance, energy efficiency and excellent high-end aesthetics.

Twice the width of competitive products, the new 50 mm gauge, Lexan Thermoclick sheet is virtually unbreakable and delivers a thermal insulation U-value that can reduce energy consumption up to 17 percent vs. traditional high-return, double-pane glass glazing. This outstanding new interconnecting sheet system has recently been selected by Hakvoort daglicht B.V., a daylight production and construction company based in the Netherlands, for cladding and façade.

SABIC Innovative Plastics’ New Lexan* Thermoclick* 50 mm Sheet System.

"Cladding and façades have an important influence on the character of a building," says Paul Hakvoort, general manager and co-owner, Hakvoort daglicht B.V. "A well-designed building offers a high-quality experience, including temperature, light and sound control. SABIC Innovative Plastics' transparent Lexan Thermoclick 50 mm sheet system is an outstanding material that truly meets our customers' needs for improved aesthetics with a range of beautiful colors and effects; easy assembly; and the potential reduction in energy required for interior lighting and insulation. We're proud to lead the growth of thermoplastic façades in the building & construction industry with this unique, high-performing product."

"Our new Thermoclick system line highlights SABIC Innovative Plastics' innovation and customer centricity across the board," said Peter van den Bleek, global product manager, Specialty Film and Sheet, SABIC Innovative Plastics. "This new product addresses two important trends in the construction industry - improved energy performance at an affordable cost, and a system approach to avoid the complexity of sourcing multiple components."

Hakvoort daglicht B.V. is currently using SABIC Innovative Plastics' Lexan Thermoclick sheet system for the cladding and façades of new residential and commercial buildings to diffuse natural daylight and significantly help raise energy efficiency vs. glass panels, providing a quieter and more comfortable environment.

Simple and Easy Way to Boost Energy Efficiency

With rising energy costs and increasing demand for sustainable building practices, architects and builders are looking for materials with high insulative performance. Lexan Thermoclick 50 mm sheet system offers very low U-values of 1.0W/ m2 K, resulting in superb energy efficiency. In addition, SABIC Innovative Plastics has lowered the U-value of its 500 mm-width, 40 mm gauge panels from 1.41 W/ m2 K to 1.27W/ m2 K. When installed as cladding and façades of residences, commercial buildings, shopping centers, office buildings and factories, these systems may not only help customers reduce heating and cooling costs, but also cut energy usage and CO2 emissions to benefit the environment.

Lexan Thermoclick sheet system delivers these important energy saving benefits at an affordable system cost. First, the 1000 mm width requires only half as many traditional-width panels, reducing labor and saving valuable time. Second, because of its excellent loading performance, the product does not need as many support elements, such as support beams and fixating keys, also helping to cut costs. In addition, the unique 9-wall with X-structure sheet system delivers all-around performance and durability; high impact resistance; UV protection on the outer surface; good light transmission and diffusion; and a wide choice of colors and effects.

A Complete Solution: Panels, Profiles and Accessories

With a specially designed V-joint connection profile, including a groove and smart snap design on both sides, Lexan Thermoclick sheet's interconnecting system eliminates the need for vertical profiles, thereby reducing costs and enhancing aesthetics. Also, this new tongue-and-groove connection design provides high stiffness and low horizontal purling at larger spans.

Lexan Thermoclick 50 mm panels are the first SABIC Innovative Plastics sheet product to be offered as a full system solution, together with profiles and accessories. Lexan Thermoclick sheet also comes with a 10-year limited written warranty against long-term weathering conditions.
