Momentive Performance Materials, a global leader in specialty chemicals and materials, today announced the completion of its new global Silplus platform, a portfolio of high consistency, heat cured rubber (HCR) products that are uniformly made for customers around the world.
The Silplus portfolio offers three different families of products available in a broad range of hardnesses. Silplus EX products can be considered for extrusion applications, Silplus MP products for multiple manufacturing processes, and Silplus HS products for higher performance applications requiring greater tear strength or enhanced mechanical properties. These products have been tested against a variety of standards that may be required for potential applications in a range of industries, including healthcare, consumer products, automotive and energy.
“Our Silplus platform complements our global services in custom elastomers, which deliver made-to-order, ready-to-use silicone rubber compounds that meet specific customer requirements in cost, durability and performance,” said Tim Angle, Global Director, Momentive Custom Elastomers.
Both the Silplus platform and custom compounding services build on Momentive’s long-standing technical leadership in silicone elastomers, which traces its roots back to the 1940s when General Electric Company Research Laboratory – a Momentive heritage company – started curing silicones with organic peroxides, leading to the development of heat cured rubber.
