Federal Mogul and Taiho Corp. to Establish Gasket Manufacturing Joint Venture

Federal-Mogul and Taiho Corporation of America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Taiho Kogyo Co have agreed to set up a 50:50 joint venture to manufacture gaskets for the global vehicle manufacturers.

The joint venture to be known as TF Global Gaskets LLC, will be established at Federal-Mogul’s existing facility in Tennessee.

TF will produce multi-layer steel (MLS) gaskets for sealing between the cylinder head engine block. Initially they will focus on the North American market and hope to begin shipping product by December 2002.

Gaskets made from MLS materials provide superior performance and durability compared to conventional gaskets made from various other composites.

The joint venture will also provide Federal-Mogul with a lead in to the Japanese auto market, based on Taiho’s established relationships.
