Composite Structure Space Bound

Yesterday, the Lockheed Martin Atlas V 400 Rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The V 400 is the largest and most powerful of the Atlas family of launch vehicles. It has on board a 12-foot diameter composite heat shield made by ATK Composites.

ATK also manufacture composite components such as the Centaur interstage adapter and bobtail for the V 500 rocket, scheduled for its inaugural launch later this year.
