Dow Corning and Scapa to Develop Skin-Friendly Solutions for Medical Applications

Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones and silicon-based technology and innovation, and Scapa Group plc, a leading global adhesive tape manufacturer, today announced they will work together to expand adhesive solutions for medical applications.

The two companies will combine their extensive knowledge of the medical device market to provide consumer-focused, turnkey solutions and accelerate the commercialization of new adhesive products.

Compared to traditional medical adhesives, silicon-based products offer patients a comfortable, skin-friendly alternative in wound care, medical device, ostomy and surgical applications. For example, silicone wound dressings help facilitate faster healing and reduce patient discomfort.

“Health practitioners around the world continue to rely on innovative medical solutions proven to increase the quality of patient care and improve health outcomes,” said Shrenik Nanavati, commercial manager for Dow Corning Healthcare Industries. “Dow Corning’s vast experience in silicone chemistry aligns well with Scapa Medical’s expertise in product design, materials manufacturing, adhesive coating and converting. Together, our companies will help pioneer the next generation of silicone adhesive medical solutions.”

“A global relationship with Dow Corning underlines Scapa Medicals’ plan to develop skin-friendly solutions for our medical customers” said Barry Andrew, medical business unit director for Scapa Group plc. “Dow Corning’s knowledge and experience of silicone adhesives will complement our global converting and coating capabilities to develop medical solutions of the future.”
