LED Experts to Meet in Austria for International Symposium and Exhibition

The new, application oriented LED professional Symposium + Expo 2011 will bring international experts from the fields of research and industry together for the first time in Bregenz, Austria. An accompanying technical exhibition will present current LED Lighting technologies and their applications for industry and the end-user.

The Symposium and Exhibition will take place in the fully equipped Festival House in Bregenz, Austria. The Call for Papers was concluded successfully on February 1st, 2011.

The LED professional Symposium + Expo 2011 is being brought to you by Luger Research e.U. in Dornbirn, Austria - who has made a name for itself around the world as publisher of the well known technical magazine, LED professional Review. This new event offers all technical and organisational requirements as the leading international meeting place for lighting experts in industry and research - at a central European location - the crossing point of Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

The deadline for the Call for Papers was February 1st, 2011. The number of papers handed in as well as the quality of the abstracts surpassed, by far, the expectations of the organizers. Presently, the Advisory Board has the hard job of assessing and choosing which papers will be announced in March as being a part of the final Symposium program.

There has been a lot of interest from potential exhibitors as well. A third of the exhibition spaces in the Festival House in Bregenz have already been booked! Symposium participants shouldn't forget that the Early Bird prices expire on July 1st, 2011. Anyone wanting to visit the exhibition only can get a free pass by registering by July 1st, 2011 at the latest.

"LED technology is developing very quickly in all of the individual fields", said Siegfried Luger, the Symposium director. "This is why it's essential for all of the businesses in this branch to identify current technology trends, understand the successful technology concepts and to create their own technology networks. Our event provides the right environment for this purpose."

LED Lighting - Winning Approaches
The symposium, which will take place annually from 2011 will run under the heading "LED Lighting Technologies - Winning Approaches" with key questions about LED lighting technology, the evolution and efficiency of white and mixed colour LED systems, their reliability, quality and system costs in addition to standardisation and measurement methods, as well as patent rights and intellectual property for LED/OLEDs, optics, drivers and heat-management. Furthermore, new design solutions and improved production processes will be the focus of expert discussions.

On a system level, the mechanisms of LED light production, primary and secondary optics, drivers, heat sinks as well as substrate, packaging and connecting technologies and materials will be discussed. Design tools and the configuration of optic, electronic and thermal components will also be debated at the symposium. Measuring and calibration equipment will also play a big role next to human factors like the physiological and perceptive evaluation of LED supported lighting systems.

Prominent Keynote Speakers
World renowned scientists and designers will accompany the LED professional Symposium 2011 with exclusive presentations. One of the keynote speakers is Dr. Sergei Ikovenko, professor at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts who will give a lecture about "Technology Evolution of LED Lighting". He will also be heading a workshop entitled "Disruptive Innovation Technology - Winning Approaches in LED Lighting". Other prominent keynote speakers are Klaus Vamberszky, Executive Vice President at Zumtobel, and Dr. Gerhard Kuhn from Osram OS.

Industry Advisory Board
An advisory board is responsible for the professional standards of the symposium. Besides Siegfried Luger and Arno Grabher-Meyer from the technical magazine LED professional Review, this expert panel is made up of Dr. Paul Hartmann, Head of Materials at Joanneum Research, Dr. Günther Sejkora, managing director of the Kompetenzzentrum Licht and Dr. Nisa Khan, president of LED Lighting Technologies.
