Poli-Cut pH Control System from Fortrans for Concrete Polishing Industry

Fortrans Inc. announces an industry first. The Poli-Cut pH control system: a self-contained portable pH control system for the concrete polishing, grinding and cutting industries.

The Poli-Cut pH control system is used to lower the pH of the process water produced in these types of operations so that the water can be safely discharged without polluting the environment.

Concrete is polished and ground with diamond abrasives using water as a lubricant. The concrete that is removed forms a slurry which is removed by filtration. The high pH water that is left after filtering is recycled back into the polishing or grinding operation. However, there is always excess high pH water that must be disposed of. This water cannot be discharged into the storm water or sewer drain or to the environment without incurring sizable fines from local and state regulatory agencies.

The Poli-Cut pH control system is a self-contained, automated machine that solves the problem for the industry.

The system uses carbon dioxide gas that is diffused and injected into the wastewater to automatically lower the pH to 7.0, which is neutral and safe to discharge. The process is safer than using corrosive mineral acids to lower pH. The overall cost of using carbon dioxide is very low compared to using mineral acids such as sulfuric or hydrochloric acid.

The system components last longer using carbon dioxide rather than acids since there are no corrosives involved in the process.

The Poli-Cut system comes complete with an integral 200-gallon tank, pump, a programmable logic controller and Fortrans' proprietary carbon dioxide diffusion-injection unit. The system is mounted on 5" polyurethane swivel casters for easy loading and maneuvering at the job site. The 2-speed pump will treat 1,500 to 3,000 gallons per hour. The system can be easily modified to treat larger volumes of process water. Also included is a 2" bottom drain on the tank with a 50' roll of flat hose with cam lock fittings for discharge.

The lightweight system can be transported in most construction trailers and then rolled out to the operation area. Unit requires 115V cord connection and a supply of carbon dioxide with a regulator to connect to the system.
