Contract for First CVGL Facility Awarded by Hyundai Hysco

Hyundai Hysco, Korea, has placed the first order for SMS Demag's CVGL facility (Continuous Vertical Galvanizing Line) which will be incorporated in the existing annealing line (CAL).

After a just four-year period of developing the prototype which was installed in an existing hot-dip galvanizing line of Wuppermann AG in Judenburg, Austria, a contract for the supply of the first CVGL has now been signed with Messrs. Rotem, a company of the Hyundai group.

The steel strip to be galvanized in the CVGL facility is up to 1,860 mm wide and 0.35 mm to 2.3 mm thick. The production capacity is approx. 750,000 tpy. The CVGL facility can be used to produce CQ, DQ, DDQ, EDDQ and HS grades. The line speed is up to 240 m/min (for GI material) and 190 m/min (for GA material).

The benefits of the facility are the non-contact, free strip travel in the metal bath, a separate production and storage pot and a short immersion time which is due to a smaller production pot.

The way in which the CVGL facility is installed allows Hyundai Hysco to use it both as annealing and hot-dip galvanizing line. The production process may be chosen according to products which Hyundai Hysco wishes to make.

Installation has been scheduled for August 2006.
