Cabot’s Aerogel Featured in Sto’s New Building Material System

Cabot’s hydrophobic aerogel has been used in the internal building insulation system of Sto, Deutschland.

StoTherm In Aevero is a highly compact system, which has a composite board that integrates these aerogel particles with Sto’s composite and binder technology to save more energy and form an insulation board providing better energy efficiency. This aerogel allows 0.016 W/mK of thermal conductivity, which is very low.

The design of the system and the new binder technology of Sto offer moisture management and permeability, ensuring control of humidity based on the building needs. The product’s thin shape ensures better insulation.

Cabot’s VP for New Business Segment, Fred von Gottberg, has stated that since conserving energy has become very essential, the company strives to manufacture products, having greater thermal performance. The company’s partnership with Sto shows commitment of Cabot in making technical association, which results in new products like aerogel products.

Sto manufactures external and internal insulation systems used in building and construction. It has become an expert in its field due to its new expansions in building materials with moisture management and better permeability for energy efficient buildings and walls.

Vice President R&D of Sto, Andreas Weier, has commented that Cabot’s support during the StoTherm In Aevero product expansion has united the intense experience of aerogel technology and Sto's experience in design, formulation and testing in the construction of insulation components and systems.

StoTherm In Aevero is made into thick panels of size 10 to 40 mm.
