Arkema Releases Celocor Opaque Polymer for TiO2 Reduction in Water-Based Paints

Arkema Coating Resins, a manufacturer of chemicals in France, has released Celocor opaque polymer. This product is made using voided latex and partly replaces the titanium dioxide (TiO2).

A balanced approach is provided by this Celocor polymer to performance qualities like scrub and burnish resistance, gloss development and tint strength, when compared to the opacifiers having the same functionality.

Eric Kaiser, Arkema’s Global Marketing Director stated that the company has identified that the availability and cost of TiO2 are significant issues that are being faced by coatings formulators. Celocor polymer offers more formulating options to the paint developers in reducing the use of TiO2.

An efficient method is provided by the Celocor opaque polymer to decrease the cost of raw material and enhance concealment in many products that includes exterior or interior coatings. The Celocor opaque polymer meets the Arkema Coating Resins EnVia program standards. It is specially designed to assist the formulators in reaching their regulatory and sustainability goals in finished coating products. This Celocor polymer with low odor does not contain formaldehyde or Alkyl Phenol Ethoxylate (APE) surfactants and can be matched with low VOC formulations.

Kaiser added that the company manufactures the products depending on the formulator’s requirements. Arkema identified that the customers are interested in brining more options for the reduction of TiO2 and the company is good at balancing the products’ performance qualities. Celocor opaque polymer satisfies the requirement of the customers.
