New Property Database Launched for the Powder Metallurgy Community

The historic city of Vienna was the venue for the last PM World Congress, organised and hosted by the European Powder Metallurgy Association. One key element in the Congress was the launch of the new Global Powder Metallurgy Database (GPMD). This online searchable database has been developed as the result of a joint project between the world’s three leading regional trade associations, the EPMA and its sister organisations in Japan (JPMA) and North America (MPIF).

Primarily aimed at designers and engineers in the wide range of industries potentially using PM products, it is designed to provide verified physical, mechanical and fatigue data for a range of commercially available PM materials. The data is displayed in a user-friendly format with the useful ability to allow downloads of certain information to commonly used FEA packages.

EPMA Executive Director Jonathan Wroe said, “Thanks to the excellent cooperation between the three trade associations and their member companies this database is a major step forward for the PM industry. It will open up new opportunities for PM technology and provide a significant resource for designers and engineers around the world”.

The database itself is based upon a system called “Iceflow”, which has been developed by nCode International Limited, an international software company with specific experience in the fatigue analysis and testing industry. It is hosted on a specifically registered website and users will be able to register free of charge in order to access the database.
