Degussa and Celanese Establish Joint Venture

Degussa AG and Celanese AG have successfully negotiated the establishment of a joint venture, in which both companies will hold a 50% stake.

The Joint venture will merge Degussa’a Oxeno subsidiary in Marl, Germany, with Celanese’s C3-oxo business activities in Oberhausen, also in Germany. Together they will produce propylene-based oxo chemicals in Europe for use as chemical intermediates in solvents and plasticisers.

The conditions of the agreement are expected to take effect immediately after being granted permission by regulatory bodies. The parties involved expect this to take place some time in 2003.
