BASF Further Integrates Polyamide Brand into its Stable

Leuna-Miramid GmbH – a manufacturer of special polyamide compounds at the chemical site in Leuna, Germany – which was taken over by BASF in November 2005, is to be renamed BASF Leuna GmbH. The name change reflects the complete incorporation of this site into BASF’s integrated network (Verbund). The brand name Miramid®, however, will be retained in BASF’s product portfolio.

New brand concept for polyamide

This integration means that the range of polyamide products, which up to now consisted of Ultramid® and Capron®, is going to be adapted and augmented by the brand name Miramid®. BASF customers now have three polyamide brands to choose from. Effective immediately, small-volume specialties will be offered under the brand name Miramid® throughout Europe. The brand name Ultramid® covers the large-volume service-oriented applications, while Capron® provides the industrial grades for which fewer services are offered.

“With Miramid, we are supplementing the polyamide portfolio with a specialty that will allow us to continue expanding the scope of our business. We are doing so with a product that is already known in the market for its high quality and flexibility, as we further strengthen its presence in Europe,” explains Kurt Höfli, head of marketing for BASF’s engineering plastics. Thomas Schümann, managing director of BASF Leuna GmbH adds, “So far, we are very satisfied within the BASF-Verbund and we look forward to new challenges.”
