Showa Denko Recycled 7.57 Million Aluminum Cans in FY2005

Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) and its Group companies stepped up their aluminum can recycling activities in fiscal year 2005 (April 2005 - March 2006) as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, collecting approximately 7,570,000 cans -- equivalent to around 123 tons of aluminum when converted at the rate of 16.2 grams of aluminum per can.

The aluminum can recycling activities by the SDK Group started in 2001 when SDK merged with Showa Aluminum Corporation, which had already performed the activities for years. More than 75% of SDK Group employees participated in the activities as of the end of March 2006.

The collected cans are purchased by SDK and used to produce recycled aluminum cans. Using the money resulting from the recycling, SDK made donations to regional social welfare organizations and groups of people with special needs.

SDK aims to fulfill its social responsibility, conducting business in a fair and faithful manner and contributing to sustainable development of society. The Company is also committed to protecting the global environment by reducing the discharge of chemical substances and industrial waste.

SDK will further promote its aluminum can recycling activities to conserve resources and contribute to the goods of local communities in which it operates.
