Jadoo Power Win Defence Contract to Develop Fuel Cells

Jadoo Power Systems Inc. (Jadoo), the leading supplier of portable fuel cell power systems, announced today that Kuchera Defense Systems (KDS) has awarded Jadoo a contract to develop the next evolution in advanced fuel cell system designs.

Building upon the Jadoo IFS24 military development platform delivered earlier this year (see release March 3, 2006 at http://www.thomas-pr.com/pressreleases/jadoosoc.html), the contract design will focus on system optimization and weight reduction. The end goal is the replacement of legacy battery technologies weighing close to 80 lb. with fuel cell power systems weighing 70% less.

Using Jadoo’s N-Stor intelligent digital fuel interface, new fuel canisters will utilize advanced chemical hydrides. Compared to batteries, or rechargeable metal hydrides, one-time use chemical hydrides provide higher energy densities at a dramatically reduced weight. The proprietary Jadoo N-Stor interface supports the following capabilities when used with the new fuel canister:

  • Easy-to-use digital “state-of-fill” indicator
  • Automatic information transfer between fuel canister and fuel cell for power, data and fluids
  • Industry standard, tamper-proof safety valve design
  • 100% compatibility with all N-Stor enabled fuel cell power units

The Jadoo fuel cell system combined with the N-Stor fuel canisters will allow power-hungry military applications such as robots, UAVs, laser designators, as well as others to take advantage of whatever advanced fuel and fuel cell technologies are to come.

“We were extremely impressed with Jadoo’s fuel cell products and capabilities. They are clearly leading in the development of portable power systems,” said Bill Kuchera, KDS President and CEO. “We expect an excellent response to the products incorporating Jadoo’s fuel cell designs and are looking forward to working closely with the team at Jadoo in the near future.”

“Powering various military applications requires both fuel flexibility and scalability. The Jadoo family of fuel cells delivers these options through the use of the N-Stor digital intelligent interface,” said Larry Bawden, Jadoo Power President and CEO. “Kuchera Defense Systems is providing advanced new products to the military markets and Jadoo is excited about delivering the technology that will support these efforts.”
