WCI Steel File for Bankruptcy Protection

Ohio (USA) – based WCI Steel have filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code. This adds another chapter to the demise of the American steel industry.

WCI had been carrying out restructuring prior to filing a voluntary petition for bankruptcy protection but failed to make sufficient progress, forcing them to take this action. However, they intend to continue making steel while they undergo further restructuring.

WCI produce custom and commodity flat rolled steel products used by steel service centres, convertors, electrical equipment manufacturers as well as the automotive construction industries.
