NuSil Awarded Patent for High Refractive Index Materials for Lenses and HBLEDs

NuSil Technology, a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone-based materials for healthcare, aerospace, electronics and photonics, was recently granted a patent for silicone materials with a refractive index higher than 1.545. High refractive index silicones are widely regarded as the next-generation materials for encapsulants and lens materials for high brightness light emitting diodes (HBLEDs).

The patent, No. 7,160,972, was granted Jan. 9, 2007 and cites several silicone material configurations with a refractive index exceeding 1.54.

"NuSil has aggressively developed high refractive index, silicone-based materials to establish a leadership position in the photonics industry," said Brian Nash, vice president of Marketing and Sales. "This patent provides us with the necessary intellectual property to solidify a top position for NuSil Technology and our Lightspan line of materials."
