Improve Design Efficiency, Productivity and Accuracy of Fluid Control Systems

Bürkert Fluid Control Systems manufactures systems to measure, control and regulate gases and fluids in a myriad of industries, including microfluidics, gas handling, hygienic processing and water treatment.

When Bürkert was planning to expand software licenses in line to its strategy of remaining competitive, the company took the opportunity to reassess its software and design requirements. As a result, the company made an investment in EPLAN Electric P8 that is supported by EPLAN Fluid and EPLAN Data Portal.

Role of EPLAN Solutions at Burkert Fluid Control Systems

Bürkert was seeking a single tool capable of being used by all of its engineers to create drawings, which could then be distributed within the company and with its clients. Nevertheless, Bürkert was also pleased with the wide choice of other productivity and quality benefits provided by EPLAN.

The adoption of EPLAN Electric P8 and the EPLAN Data Portal has enabled Bürkert to achieve faster turnaround times by minimizing project design time drastically through the elimination of typical editing errors.

The automation of several challenging tasks, including device wiring and numbering, has saved time and improved accuracy.

EPLAN solutions also facilitate streamlined revisions management due to the possibility of exporting project documentation to Bürkert’s customers in formats such as smart PDFs, as well as the option to re-import and integrate changes made by the customers automatically. After finalizing a design, the CAE automatically produces an entire build package for production, which includes all diagrams, lists and component ID, and if required, automated configurations for wire processing and NC machining.

Data Consistency

The EPLAN Data Portal delivers online device data of more than 340,000 components, which are managed and controlled by 51 producers, including Phoenix Contact, B&R, ABB and Festo. Consequently, the data portal has provided another opportunity for productivity improvement, thanks to the immediate availability of the wealth of information.

With the EPLAN Data Portal, it is convenient and effective to transfer order numbers for procurement, location drawings for equipment, technical macros for creating schematics, preview screens and function templates for intelligent device selection into the project. This capability effectively eliminates the time intensive process of creating master data, resulting in faster delivery owing to more Intelligent planning, better wiring, and more reliable mounting.

EPLAN helped Bürkert Fluid Control Systems to achieve a smooth transition. EPLAN's round-the-clock global technical support facilitates troubleshooting.

Conclusion

The use of a robust CAE program is often not sufficient to ascertain efficient design work and sophisticated engineering. Hence, EPLAN provides advanced, educational training packages to improve organizational knowledge and productivity. Bürkert selected to enlist its staff on a five-day EPLAN Electric P8 training program, which not only established and extended the product knowledge among the trainees, but also allowed them to effectively use the software to improve the productivity of the company.
