Introduction
Copper alloys are available in more than 400 varieties. Each copper alloy
variety has specific properties that suit a number of manufacturing processes,
environments and applications. Some of the copper alloy forms include beryllium
copper, nickel silver, tin bronze, brass, phosphor bronze, gunmetal, aluminum
bronze and copper-nickel.
The UNS C94800 alloy is a type of copper casting alloy. The following
datasheet provides an overview of this copper casting alloy.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment
Welding
Welding processes suitable for UNS C94800 alloy include brazing, soldering,
oxyacetylene welding, coated metal arc welding and gas shielded arc welding.
Carbon arc welding is not recommended for this alloy.
Machinability
The machinability rating of UNS C94800 alloy is 40 at heat treated state and
50 as cast.
Heat Treatment
UNS C94800 alloy has stress relieving temperature of 260°C (500°F). This
alloy does not react to heat treatment. The time at temperature for this alloy
is one hour per inch of section thickness. The precipitation hardening
temperature for the UNS C94800 alloy is between 305 and 325°C (580 and 620°F).
The temperature time is six to ten hours. Air is used as the quenching medium
used for precipitation hardening temperature.
Applications
UNS C94800 alloy is used in bearings, structural castings, machinery parts,
gear components and motion translation devices.
