Bristol University Cabot Institute Director Receives Royal Society Chemistry 2014 Interdisciplinary Prize

Richard Pancost, Professor of Biogeochemistry in the School of Chemistry and Director of the University of Bristol's Cabot Institute, is one of three recipients of the Royal Society Chemistry (RSC) 2014 Interdisciplinary Prize.

When San Diego-based DSC Products developed an American-made, tough product for a major retail partner, it turned to the equally tough Eastman Tritan™ copolyester. DSC Products’ high-quality, reasonably priced American Tumbler™ drinkware line is made entirely with Tritan, a new-generation copolyester from Eastman Chemical Company. Tritan offers superior clarity, dishwasher durability and is free of bisphenol A (BPA). DSC Products this month began selling its tumbler line exclusively in Walmart stores throughout the country.

Cabot Corporation announces that Fixit 222, an aerogel-containing insulating plaster product, was recently recognized with a prestigious innovation award. The product, which features Cabot’s aerogel technology, solved a complex technical challenge involving the renovation of historical buildings in Europe.

BASF and SINOPEC will build a new world-scale production plant for Neopentylglycol (NPG) at their state-of-the-art Verbund site, BASF-YPC Co., Ltd., a 50-50 joint venture in Nanjing, China.

BASF’s Emissions Control System Combining LNT and CS4F to be Showcased at Vienna Motor Symposium

BASF will introduce its innovative LNT+CS4F™ emissions control system for diesel engines at the International Vienna Motor Symposium, being held May 8 to 9, 2014, in Vienna, Austria. The new system combines the features of a Lean NOx Trap (LNT) and a multifunctional catalyzed soot filter (CS4F).

New Experimental Results Can Impact Design of Future Catalysts

Natural gas (methane) can be converted into hydrogen (H2), which is used in clean energy, synthetic fertilizers, and many other chemicals. The reaction requires water and a nickel catalyst. Methane and water molecules attach on the catalyst's surface, where they dissociate into their atomic components.
