XRF Analyzer for Detecting Hazardous Elements in Consumer Items

Oxford Instruments’ announces the launch of a new, robust X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzer –the X MET5000, for accurate and reliable identification of hazardous elements in consumer goods. The X MET5000 represents the 4th generation of Oxford Instruments’ hand-held analyzers.

Engineered for high performance and reliability, this brand new analyzer combines Oxford Instruments’ patented PentaFET® detector technology guaranteed fast analysis and lower detection limits for determining lead and other heavy metals in toys, jewelry and consumer products.

Increased awareness of lead contamination in toys means that other common household goods are now in question as a potential source of childhood lead poisoning, such as tableware, clothing, textiles and packaging material. Oxford Instruments’ X MET5000 hand-held XRF analyzer is the simple solution to detecting lead, arsenic, cadmium or mercury in all of these products. With X MET5000 you can have confidence that you are delivering a safe product to your customer.

The X-MET5000’s portability means that it can be taken to any location – a store, a warehouse, an incoming port – to test the toys and other goods for lead and other heavy metals. PVC plastic, which may contain harmful phtalates, can be identified. Packaging can be screened for cadmium, lead or mercury and jewelry for lead and nickel.

The X MET5000 is the instrument of choice for screening all of the elements restricted by the EU’s RoHS ban on hazardous elements in consumer electronics. Even paints and raw materials can be tested before being included in a product.

The powerful user programmable software delivers fast, highly accurate results for reliable Go/No-Go decisions. The X-MET5000 will identify material type and automatically chooses the best analysis method.

An optional bench-top stand enables hands-free operation for multi-tasking without the loss in confidence of measurement results.
