Engineering Polymer Conference Brings Together Industry Experts Addressing Oilfield Operations

AMI and the Materials Engineering Research Laboratory (MERL) are pleased to announce the 6th international conference on Oilfield Engineering with Polymers, which will take place over 2 days from 7-8 October 2008 at the Cavendish Conference Centre in central London, England.

Oilfield Engineering with Polymers 2008 aims to bring together operators, contractors, equipment and component suppliers, materials suppliers and research organisations involved in the use of polymers in upstream oilfield operations.

Elastomers, thermoplastics, thermosets and composite materials play a vital role in many critical applications in the oilfield such as coatings, insulation, pipes (bonded and flexible), hoses, seals, flexible joints and bearings, inflatable tools, umbilicals, risers, blow out preventers etc. The industry challenge is to operate safely and reliably under a wide range of operational and environmental conditions. Key to this is research and develoment, design, qualification and operational experience.

The oil industry is operating in increasingly remote and hostile environments. Industry trends include an increasing number of sub-sea completions for deep and ultra deep water, increasing temperatures and pressures downhole, a growing market for liquid natural gas (LNG), new drilling fluids, reinjection of sour gas, etc. These developments bring greater demands on the materials and components that are employed and a greater need for understanding material behaviour and limits.

Lively interaction between the international panel of speakers and delegates aims to stimulate debate in all sectors and the event will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest materials, technology and trends.
