Dow to Establish Specialty Elastomers Joint Venture

SCG-Dow Group, a joint venture of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and Siam Cement Group (SCG) announced today that it has established a 50/50 joint venture to begin constructing a specialty elastomers train located in the Asia Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, Thailand. The specialty elastomers train is expected to commence operations in 2011.

“This joint venture will provide manufacturing capability for plastomers and elastomers in Asia, allowing for greater value growth and participation in the region”, explains Marco Levi, global business director, Dow Elastomers. Furthermore, Marco states “this new facility will supply customers in the fast-growing region with some of the most technologically advanced plastomers and elastomers in the world, including AFFINITY™ Polyolefin Plastomers and ENGAGE™ Polyolefin Elastomers. This investment is consistent with Dow’s strategy to invest in our downstream performance businesses and to drive growth in Asia Pacific.”

The plan to build the specialty elastomers plant was announced last January, 2008. “We are excited to work with Dow in another joint venture. Adding specialty products into our product portfolio is in line with our business strategy” states Cholanat Yanaranop, president of SCG Chemicals Company Limited. This newest venture aligns directly to the goals of each company – to deliver differentiated solutions, which in turn creates value for all our customers.
