Malvern to Present Novel Analytical Strategies for Linking Physical and Chemical Properties

Malvern Instruments will present novel analytical strategies linking the chemical and physical properties of materials at this year’s Eastern Analytical Symposium and Exposition (EAS 2008, November 17-20, Somerset NJ, USA). Malvern, a leader in the field of near infrared chemical imaging (NIR-CI) and analysis, will focus on Quality by Design in the pharmaceutical industry facilitated by NIR–CI.

Dr E. Neil Lewis, Technical Director for Malvern Instruments, will present a paper from Malvern’s NIR-CI specialists on: Quality by Design in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Novel Analytical Strategies to Characterize Physical and Chemical Characteristics Simultaneously.

Dr Linda Kidder Senior Scientist, Chemical Imaging Systems and Spectroscopy at Malvern Instruments, will chair the session sponsored by the Coblentz Society.

The complex interaction of the physical and chemical characteristics of excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients strongly influences the quality of pharmaceutical products. These interactions can both identify and characterize parameters which are critical to quality and fundamental to the implementation of effective Quality by Design.

SyNIRgi Near Infrared Chemical Imaging (NIR-CI) systems from Malvern Instruments, utilize a non-destructive technique that combines traditional near infrared spectroscopy with microscopic and macroscopic imaging. Coupled with Malvern’s proprietary ISys data analysis software, NIR-CI facilitates quantitative and spatial identification of chemical species in a sample.
