Increased Aluminium Output for Tomago Smelter

Pechiney, Gove Aluminium Finance and Hydro Aluminium, the joint venture partners in the Tomago Aluminium project (Australia) have agreed to increase the output of the plant.

Current production capacity of approximately 460,000 tons per annum will be expanded to 530,000 tons per annum. The participants aim to reach the target output by 2006, via a series of incremental increases. The first of these stages will take place in 2004.

The project will cost about A$210million, with increased production being made possible by increasing the plants intensity to 225,000 amps.
